Ongoing Events

Our congregation enjoys eating together! Below you'll find our ongoing events that revolve around eating.

Family Potluck suppers
Every Second Tuesday at 6:00 PM All ages and friends welcome. Bring something to share. Homemade or tore-bought are welcome! Come enjoy the company of other families at this informal event. Held on the Second Thursday of each month in Chidley Hall. Contact Carol Jones at for more information.

Welcome Back Picnic
Outdoor BBQ held in early September on the church patio after the service. Main course is supplied by the Membership Life Commission, and members are asked to bring side dishes, desserts, and beverages. Check the church calendar for the date.

Stone Soup Lunch
In conjunction with pledge Sunday in December, church members prepare and serve their favorite soup for all to share. Great bread and desserts are also served. Check the church calendar for the date.

Cookie Walk Held in early December, it is a giant cookie swap, except there is a small donation requested if you want to sample the cookies! This is your chance to make your favorite recipe in quadruple and see your efforts devoured. Church youth assist with the set up and tasting. Money donated is donated to the outreach committee.

Youth Progressive Dinner
7th -12th graders, under the supervision of our Youth Minister, walk to several member's homes and enjoy appetizers, dinner, then desert. Held in December, it is a fun and bonding time and often involves walking down snowy streets to get to the food!

Bean Supper
First week in December to coincide with the town holiday light festival. The bean supper is wonderful New England tradition maintained by the First Congregational Church for many years. We open our church to the town, and many come to eat our secret recipes for hot dogs, beans and slaw while awaiting the arrival for Santa on the town common across the street. It is a time to greet many friends and enjoy a traditional New England supper together. Usually held the first Thursday in December.

All Church Birthday Party
On the first Sunday in March the Church celebrates the birthday of all of our members!! Sit at the table with others born the same month as you and eat delicious birthday cake, created by talented church bakers!

Adult Progressive Dinner
In Spring the adults in the church enjoy a very fun evening as they travel to several homes to enjoy an evening of great dining and conversation. Check the church calendar for the date!

Easter Morning Pancake Breakfast Held annually at 10:00 AM in Chidley Hall, in between the 9:00 AM and the 11:00 AM Easter services.

All Church Picnic
Held in June, at the conclusion of our church school, on the church patio. Hamburgers and hot dogs are grilled by our expert chefs, including our Pastor. Sides, desserts, and beverage are supplied by our members.

Church Fair
The Harvest Fair is a highlight of the early Christmas season for many. Our church is transformed into a holiday bazaar, featuring many items for sale. Beautiful handmade goods, fresh Vermont cheese, bargain jewelry, gifts from the Navaho nation, and beautiful one of a kind wrapping paper to package your newfound treasures can all be found at the fair. The traditional Lobster Roll and hot dog luncheon attracts many townspeople to our church at holiday time. It takes many hands to organize and run the Harvest Fair, and it is a terrific way to meet others in the congregation.
